| History in Brief:-
St Anne’s Roman Catholic Church is situated to the east of the County town of Stafford, approximately two miles from the town centre. The Parish boundary embraces the areas of Baswich, Weeping Cross, Walton-on-the-Hill, Milford and Brocton. The Parish of St Annes’ was officially established in 1966 when the Church Hall was built on available land at the side of Lynton Avenue. Prior to this the area was part of St Austin’s Parish, with Sunday services being celebrated in the gymnasium of nearby Leasowes Primary School. Christmas vigils and other masses where celebrated in Baswich Church Hall, next to Holy Trinity Church in Baswich Lane. With the appointment of a full time Parish Priest (Rev Duggan) in 1964, daily masses were celebrated in the dining room of Father Duggan's house in Bodmin Avenue. By February 1967, the parish had a brand new Church Hall and a substantial mortgage to go with it. In response, the parishioners demonstrated their generosity, not only in the weekly offertory collections, but also with their commitment, time and effort. Fetes, bazaars, jumble sales, bring and buys and coffee mornings, were regular events during the 1960s.In 1970 Rev Wharburton came to St Annes from St Peters' in Birmingham and in the following years, until 1983, the Presbytery (the Bungalow) and St Anne’s School were built. The final building to be erected was the Church itself. Work commenced in March 1986, during Rev Moran's term of office, with a final blessing by Archbishop Maurice Couve de Murville, on build completion, Monday the 2nd February 1987. In 1990 Canon Good moved from Lichfield and served the Parish for 13 years until he started his retirement in 2004. Our present Priest, the Rev. Patrick Broun, started his term of office in 2004 and is now well and truly entrenched in the ongoing life of St Annes’.
